Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s everything you need to know about how Learn Spanish works - and how our high-quality teachers personalise lessons based on the individual student.

What kinds of Spanish lessons do you offer?

We specialise in online Spanish lessons taught by qualified, native speakers. We have launched a Kids Club in Twickenham and have plans for more. Contact us for details.

Each lesson is personalised to the student’s level, objectives, and learning style - whatever the reasons for learning: travel, work, exams (GCSE, A-Level, DELE), or pure enjoyment!

We teach all levels: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. Small-group and family lessons are also available.

Can I learn Spanish online - and is it really as effective as in-person classes?

Yes - it’s usually more effective.

Online lessons give you the same personal interaction as face-to-face classes, with added flexibility, and access to our global pool of teachers..

Modern video tools such as Zoom make lessons highly interactive - with audio-visual explanations, chat for written practice, and shared notes for feedback.

Our teachers are trained to use this environment to its fullest, keeping lessons warm, dynamic, and truly conversational.

Who are your teachers?

Our teachers work for us and are fully vetted via a rigorous process to ensure that our teaching is of the highest quality. Our teachers are:

  • Native Spanish speakers from Spain or Latin America.

  • Fully qualified, holding recognised ELE (Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language) or DELE (where appropriate) certifications.

  • Experienced professionals with a vocation, not hobbyists - many have university degrees in Spanish, linguistics, or education.

  • Personally interviewed by our Learning Director, who oversees curriculum quality, teaching style, and personal fit.

Because we work online, we can recruit the best teachers globally, not just those who happen to live nearby.

Do you follow a structured curriculum?

We have options.

Our default curriculum is Aula Internacional, the professional curriculum from Campus Difusión, trusted by universities and the Instituto Cervantes.

It’s aligned with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), which defines internationally recognised levels from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Advanced).

For those specifically targeting GCSEs, A-Levels or DELE, we work to specific, personalised plans, taking into account the student’s strengths and weaknesses and the specific exam board.

We also offer less structured, conversation-based lessons for those students who want to activate and develop their spoken Spanish.

Learn Spanish starts with the student’s objectives and then applies the approach that best suits them.

What makes Learn Spanish different from other platforms or apps?

We combine high quality Spanish teaching with tailored lesson planning and rich feedback. Our teachers go through a rigorous interview process before joining the team. Our Learning Director works closely with them on an on-going basis, monitoring student progress and ensuring the best possible outcomes.

All students receive detailed feedback to ensure they are on track, and we keep the plan flexible to account for course-correction along the way. Our optional proprietary Learning Intelligence reporting analyses lessons, using pattern and phrase-level analysis to enhance your learning If you prefer traditional teaching without this technology, that’s absolutely fine - you can add or remove this feature as you wish.

What is the CEFR?

The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is the global benchmark for language proficiency.

It divides ability into six levels - A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 - covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

We can use the CEFR standards to assess the student’s level. Each CEFR level has an associated exam. Some of our students take these exams to establish their credentials, some don’t. If you do take the exams, we structure lessons specifically around exam prep.

What technology do I need for online lessons?

All you need for online lessons is a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and reliable internet connection.

We use Zoom (or similar) for live video and chat, which allows for:

  • Clear audio-visual interaction.

  • Screen sharing for explanations and exercises.

  • Chat for written practice and corrections.

  • Easy sharing of homework, notes, and materials.

Where needed, we guide new students through this step-by-step. Most students are up and running in minutes.

How long are the lessons and how often should I take them?

Most students choose:

  • 60-minute sessions - the standard format for steady progress.

  • 90-minute sessions - for intensive learning or exam preparation.

We recommend a schedule based on goals and availability. Students learn at their own pace. We advise, of course, as to what the student would need to achieve their goals, but the final decision is, of course, the student’s.

How much do Spanish lessons cost?

Prices depend on lesson length and package type. See our pricing page for more detail.

We’ll confirm your rate after understanding your needs and matching you with the right teacher.

Discounts are available for block bookings, and we give a free introductory session to each new student to discuss their learning before they commit.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

We understand that sometimes life throws up the unexpected. Our students book their lessons for whenever suits them, and if for some reason they can’t attend one, they can reschedule so long as they give us at least 24 hours’ notice.

Can children learn with you?

Yes. Many of our teachers specialise in Spanish for children and teenagers. We have also launched a Kids’ Spanish Club in Twickenham and plan to launch more in the near future.

Lessons are interactive, fun, and adapted to the learner’s age, attention span, and goals - from early exposure to school-level exams.

All teachers are fully vetted and DBS-checked where required.
